Kasane is one of Botswana tourism town and is the gate way to the Chobe National Park and the Okavango Delta. Arrive at Kasane airport and meet your guide who will take you through orientation of the trip and then eventually transfer you on 4×4 wheel drive vehicle to the first destination of your trip. Enjoy your trip as you drive in Chobe National Park.
A mobile expedition style safari is one of the best ways to experience the wildlife destinations in Botswana. Accommodation is tented in private sites accessed by industry members securing complete privacy and flexibility to experience the wildlife. It provides a refreshing memorable environment, often accompanied by picnic lunch on a designated or open space. The most entertaining part is the quite environment accompanied by animal and birds callings at night, morning and during the day. For those in love with the birds they will enjoy the natural orchestra at its best hence brightening up the day.
Chobe National Park – Is situated in the northern part of Botswana along the Chobe River, covering a space of 11 700 km2. The park boarders Moremi Game Reserve in the North west and Chobe River in the North. The famous Chobe River is a life support to a diverse concentration of wildlife species which reside in the park for healthy vegetation and survival. The park is known as a home to a population of elephants which provide incredible sighting to guest as they enjoy game drives. Sighting varies from buffalo, Kudu, Zebras which are spotted quenching their thirst along the Chobe River bank. During a boat cruise an encounter with a pool of Hippos, crocodile is possible and bird species are prolific, such as African Fish Eagle, King Fisher and Martial Eagle amongst many other species.
Nata – Iis one of unique attraction in Botswana popularly known for its beautiful pans that accommodate a variety of bird species and open space of landscape covered with salt pans. It covers up to 230 square kilometers. The Nata Sanctuary is normally supplied by the Nata River Delta which is approximately 15 kilometers north eastern boarder of Nata when water floods from rains. Additionally the pans can hold water for a longer time hence providing a means of water supply for birds and wildlife species living within the park. Flamingoes and Pelicans are commonly birds’ species congregating in the nutrient rich waters of the pan, others includes Pied Kingfisher, Carmine, Blue-Cheeked Bee-Eater, Martial and Black-Breasted Eagle, Secretary and Kori Bustards.
Lekhubu Islands – Located near the south-western corner of Sowa Pans. The national monument is believed to have been discovered 500 to 1500 years ago. In descriptive the word Kubu means Hippopotamus. This area is known for plant species like the Baobab tree which are surrounded with sea of salt. Greater and Lesser Flamingos, Pink- baked and great white Pelican, Ostrich, Kori Bustard, African Marsh, Pallid and Montague’s Harrier, Grey Crowned Cranes Caspian Tern, Yellow-throated Sandgrouse and Marsh Owl are common bird sightings in the area.
Lake Xau – Located 200km from Maun alongside Mopipi as you drive to Rakops. The lake is similar to lake Ngami in being a nutrient sink with rich soils that, when flooded, will result in nutrient-rich eutrophic waters in an otherwise dry area. It attracts and supports a diverse life of water bird species when it finally floods during rain seasons. There are varieties of bird’s species which reside in the lake and survive on water supply therein and also beautiful landscape of the lake provide habitation for birds such as Grey Heron, Marabou Stork, Cattle Egret, African Jacana, Black smith Lapwing, Crowned Lapwing and White Faced Duck.
Central Kalahari Game Reserve – Is one of Botswana’s exciting attraction destination concentrated with immense species of wildlife and also known as the world’s second largest game reserve. The area is covered with shrubs and dwarfed tree giving a spectacular game sighting. After summer rains the area is covered with sweet grass that attracts various species of wildlife. Common sightings bird species includes the Secretary Bird, Orange River Francolin, Northern Black Korhaan, Larks-Monotonous, Spike-Healed, Fawn-coloured, Flappet, Eastern Clapper, Southern Pale Chanting Goshawk, Booted Eagle, Capped Wheatear, Desert and Tinkling Cisticola and Ant-eating Chat.
Lake Ngami – In the south-western part of the Okavango Delta approximately 30 miles from the popularly known tourism town Maun. The lake flood is feed by the Kunyere River which flows through the Toteng village. Presently, the lake is most used by the local commercial fisher men as fishing destination, regardless of the pressure; the lake remains the destination of the birding species such as, Robin, Cape and Grey Pendulum Tit, Green winged Pytilia Chestnut Weaver, Pririt Batis, Violet-Eared Waxbill and Great Sparrow amongst many other species. This is unique place for birding photographer.
Moremi Game Reserve – Located in eastern part of the Okavango Delta. It covers up to one third of the Okavango Delta. The reserve was established in 1962 as a means to protect the natural unique habitat comprising of grasslands, mopane woodland to dry savannah, flood plains, permanent water ways, and lagoons. It is popularly known for its diverse concentration of wildlife species, birds and rich vegetation throughout the year.
The wetlands give an incredible view and spectacular game sighting within the area. Safari activities are quite exceptional comprising of game drives and boat cruise in the flood plains and crossing through. The papyrus along the water ways is normally a home to the Lechwe and is suitable for boat cruise; therefore, a full day boat cruise is vital to experience more of the uniqueness channels of delta. Common bird sightings include: African Fish eagle, African Jacana, African Hawk eagle, Slaty egret, Tawny-Eagle, Crested Crane, Sacred Ibis and Bateleus.
Khwai – For another safari experience you will drive in the northeast tip of Moremi for another camping site at Khwai. This area is rich in ever green vegetation and wildlife such as predators and prey. Lions and Leopards sighting are some of the common game sported in the area, as well as exceptional birding such as Kingfishers and Wattled crane amongst many. This area encompasses of wetlands where water based activities are the best to experience the flood plains formed by the presently listed heritage site, the Okavango Delta.
